Equality Global Support Foundation (EGSF) joins billions of Black people all over the world to commemorate the year 2023 Black History month. In a statement released in Toronto, Canada on February 1st, 2023, the organization views this year’s theme for Black History Month: “Black Resistance” as one that resonates with everyone who identifies as Black as the race has had and continues to have too many obstacles to contend with. It is only through conscious resistance that the Black race can surmount its challenges.
EGSF notes that although slavery had long been abolished; systemic exclusion, racism, high incarceration of black youth, and other forms of societal inequalities continue to disproportionately affect Black people. There are numerous baffling statistics pointing to this sad reality. For instance, according to www.naacp.org, “a Black person is five times more likely to be stopped by the cops without just cause than a white person, a Black man is twice as likely to be stopped without just cause than a Black woman and 65% of Black adults have felt targeted because of their race” Inequalities in job opportunities, immigration, infrastructures, economic prosperity and health outcomes of black communities continue to be significantly affected by the color of the skin of the inhabitants of the communities.

EGSF opines that resistance against injustice, discrimination, and inequity should be an undertaking all races of the world are committed to strengthening as it is only when everyone is treated as equal that a truly united and prosperous world is possible.
In its Call to Action, the organization calls on the Government of Canada to do more in curbing racial inequality in the country through continuous inclusion and enablement of minority groups. The time to act is NOW!
